See and Grow — Developmental Cards (+0)
I created this series of cards for my little son, who is now three months old and has started seeing yellow, red, and green. These cards help develop visual perception, and I tried to make them engaging for those who don’t yet know what animals or objects are—those who see the world as pure abstraction.
At birth, babies primarily perceive high-contrast black-and-white images, and as their vision develops, they begin to distinguish bold colors like red, yellow, and green. These cards are designed to support this early-stage visual development by providing engaging, contrast-rich patterns and forms.
Unlike traditional flashcards that depict familiar objects, animals, or letters, See and Grow is crafted for those who are just beginning to explore the world through pure abstraction. At this stage, infants don't yet recognize shapes as representations of real-world items—they see patterns, contrasts, and movement. With this in mind, I focused on creating compositions that are visually stimulating, balancing geometric and organic forms with bold color accents to capture attention and encourage focus.
Each card is carefully designed to align with the developmental stages of early vision:
0–2 months: High-contrast black-and-white patterns to strengthen focus and stimulate visual tracking.
2–4 months: The introduction of red, yellow, and green—the first colors babies begin to perceive.
4+ months: More complex shapes and layered compositions to engage growing visual curiosity.
I'm sharing these cards so that perhaps they can inspire other parents and designers to think differently about early visual engagement for children.
